USPSA Limited Optics Full Setup - Masterpiece Arms DS9 LOC
2023 was an exciting year for the Action Pistol scene with IDPA allowing ported/comped barrels and USPSA developing a new division, Limited Optics. This newly minted division was an answer to a long pain point for shooters who wanted to shoot their Single Action Only (SAO) pistol with a slide-ride optic. Prior to this, these types of guns automatically received a bump to Open. With the current and legacy ruleset… the Open Division favored Major Power Factor setups with compensators… essentially counter-intuitive to current market trends and thus USPSA made the adjustment with Limited Optics!
In 2022, Masteprice Arms (MPA) unveiled an IDPA complaint DS9 that pushed every rule. In short, they made the “Ultimate Gamer Gun” for IDPA. I purchased a set and have had a positive experience since then as I had produced a video prior about my experience with them at 5000 Rounds. Well… in 2023, IDPA went bolder with their ruleset by allowing ported barrels and MPA answered the call by allowing owners of the IDPA model to port their barrels. This put me in a dilemma as I was running those DS9s in Limited Optics at the time. Now… the practical thing to do would’ve been to order another set of barrels that were ported and swap them out as needed. However, MPA did what they do best and they produced a DS9 specifically for Limited Optics. So in the spirit for the thrill of acquiring a new gun… I ordered two DS9 LOCs (Limited Optics Competition).
Below are a handful of pics of the DS9 LOC!
Below is the video that I produced to give you an overview of the equipment I use for USPSA. I do mention in the video that I would leave links below so you can see where I get my gear from!
