DC Precision DC9R Review

In the past few years, we’ve seen a rise in metal framed striker-fired guns and for the most part, shooters are left wondering why we don’t do this across all polymer framed guns. Having the additional weight does assist with felt recoil and in the hand with some weight behind it… it just feels right. One company decided to answer that call with the DC Precision DC9R.

The DC9R was born from the imagination of a Self-Taught Nebraskan, Dave Petta. When you view his Instagram, you’ll find the story of this gun in which there is just post upon post of the behind the scenes of what goes into one of the builds. In a sense, you begin to understand what you’re investing in… a gentleman’s dream to produce the ultimate execution of a metal framed striker-fired gun marrying the very best in design. You have the engineering benefits of the Glock platform which include simplicity of operation and low bore-axis tied with the modularity of a 1911 Double Stack in which there are three main components: The Slide, Frame, and Grip Module. Before I go more into the gun, lets talk briefly about how I came across the DC9R.

My Story with this masterpiece began when I was at the range with friends and  my good buddy, Calvin, came over with a box with four guns in it. A Heavily Modified Staccato P, the John Wick 4 1911 DSs which were both the Sand and Pit Vipers, and the DC9R. Naturally, with the excitement of JW4 on the horizon, our buddies gravitated toward the Vipers and started dry firing them. As I starred in the box, What drew my eye was that I immediately  saw the back plate which looked very familiar to me as I determined it was a Glock back plate. I pulled the gun out and the first thing that grabbed my attention was the weight and how strikingly well-put together this gun was. As I manipulated it, the ergonomics felt familiar as the general shape of the grip and frame felt very 2011 to me. I then did a coupe of dry pulls on the trigger and was impressed with the near zero pre-travel with subtle creep into a fairly light 3.5lb pull. The reset was forceful and placed me right back on the wall. I immediately knew this was a Glock Trigger group albeit an incredibly well-tuned and optimized one.

I then loaded a mag and decided to shoot a mini stage we had setup. I just went for it and a few seconds later… my mind was blown… The shooting experience was incredible! I then asked Calvin if I could do a more in-depth review and he happily obliged with no strings attached. As Calvin is such a good guy, I will advocate that you have to visit his taco restaurant if you’re ever in the DFW Area, OMG Tacos… Best Tacos in Town!

That said, I created a fairly in depth video regarding my experience with the DC9R… so check it out below. I’ll leave additional details and links regarding the Gun below as well a any other information I mentioned… enjoy!
